Another Cover: Rebel Heart by Moira Young

Screw formatting, I just want to show the cover. I don't remember what any of my previous Another Cover posts were formatted like anyways.

Rebel Heart by Moira Young
Dustlands series; book II (sequel to the brilliant Blood Red Road)

So.. yeah. I *think* it's the real thing.

Blood Red Road cover:

I definitely liked the first book's style more. So, so much more. The bold font, the whole dustlands feel. I'm excited to see the Rebel Heart cover mostly because it feels like there has been no information about the book for the LONGEST time and I just loved BRR.

I wish they didn't have a huge picture of a hunky guy on the cover. The design is cool but I'm like.. "that's not a book I would like to read in public". I mean, come ON. I WANT TO GET RANTY HERE because sometimes I HATE the covers that are so "targeted at teen hormones" or WHATEVER, you don't need to have some hot guy or some girl in a pretty dress to get me to pick up your book. It makes me mad because I thought they completely got it RIGHT with the first cover and they went "LET'S GO COMMERCIAL" with book two and UGHHHHH. I hate it when it feels like it's SO FLIPPING COMMERCIAL and just like so many other covers out there, MAKE IT ORIGINAL NEXT TIME.

I dislike the blurb too, because can we just WAIT A MINUTE and STOP COMPARING EVERYTHING TO THE HUNGER GAMES.

PS- the book is called REBEL HEART and not DUST LANDS so WHY IS THE SIZE OF THE ACTUAL TITLE SO FLIPPING SMALL. which is another thing I find so funny because "Dustlands" doesn't even APPEAR on BRR so WHY ARE YOU ADVERTISING IT SO BIG WHEN PEOPLE WON'T EVEN SEE THE FRICKEN CONNECTION. I DON'T SEE ANY CONNECTION.

I swear I'm usually in a better mood.

Hey, maybe this is just a teaser cover and I'm still hoping for the real thing.

yeah, this post kind of got out of control.

OKAY. Let's rewind here. I'm not going to take back what I said but I did some more googling and it turns out they changed the theme of the covers when they went to paperback (released Feb 2012, which is why I haven't seen it around much) and also, I HATE IT WHEN THEY DO THAT. GAHHHH. I'm not going to bring up series (ohey there Nightshade, I am not a fan of your redone covers). Anyways, I'm totally capable of seeing I'm in the wrong but AGH I stand by my opinion but NOW I SEE THE CONNECTION. I DO. NOT A FAN STILL THOUGH.

WHYYYYYYYYYY.

  1. AWESOME POST! And I agree with every word. I really don't get why they keep doing these with covers. The books did well before so I don't understand the need for more "commercialized" book covers.

  2. I just saw the cover too!
I actually really like the paperback version of BRR. this volcanic red is wow. love it.
But the yellow one is huh...not as striking.
And every thing you said is RIGHT.

And don't remember why but I bought the UK version of BRR. with a big black bird on it. and a very good paper quality. I hope they will do matching covers.

  3. my boyfriend said BRR dusty cover was a GIRL cover. I wonder what he would say about Dust Lands'. sorry, REBEL HEART.

  4. I'm sorry, WHAT!? This is my first time seeing the cover, and I am shocked and appalled. WHY would S&S do that? Whyyy? *sobs*

  5. I don't totally hate it (the contrast is cool looking), but it does make me sad because the hardcover for BRR is SO gorgeous, like I totally fell for it because it was so atmospheric and different. And YES x a zillion about THG blurb. WHYYYYYY does everything have to be compared to THG?? At least in this case I can see some similarities, unlike other books when I think "this is nothing at ALL like THG".

Anyway. =( I definitely preferred the original look.

  6. Ugh, I had a feeling they were going to redesign the covers with the paperback.. That seems to be happening to a lot of YA series lately and it drives me crazy. Doesn't help that these covers suck (well, BRR is meh, but Rebel Hearts? eww). It's also going to suck for the people who bought BRR in hardcover because now they won't match. Stupid stupid stupid.

  7. Oooo I like this one. Nice.

As for the redesigns for paperback. I love that. It keeps it different and fun.

  8. You do have a point on the Hunger Games comparison.

  9. Uh. What. No. Please?

I was really hoping this wasn't the real deal until I saw the other cover too.

I picture BRR as a gritty, unique series with freaking CAGE FIGHTS and western elements, not a book about supermodels chilling out in the desert... how shallow do they think teenagers are >:|

It's like my brain is going numb with what is in front of me

    .....ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?! ADFSKLJADSL;JF;EWIRWO123#!#@#

  10. The cover reminds me of an action movie.

My first reaction when I saw the reveal at Hollywood Crush: YUCK ARE YOU KIDDING ME.

Yeah, I don't like it at all.

  11. *pats* Breathe Audrey. It will be OKAY. I can completely understand your reaction but I... well, I like the paperback cover of Blood Red Road and this one ties nicely with it. That's not to say that I think any less of the original hardcover one though. I dunno, sometimes seeing a new cover is more maddening than other times (*cough* Nightshade series with the exception of Bloodrose), but this time, I'm okay with it.

  12. Child. I know. This is what my review of Rebel Heart on goodreads comprises of:

So, not only is this title probably one of the lamest things ever (really? After Blood Red Road you come up with REBEL HEART? Why not title the next one Wild Fierce Passion?), the cover. is. boring. I think that's the worst insult I can come up with.
And guess what? It ONLY MATCHES THE FIRST NOVEL'S PAPERBACK. Aren't we all a little too damn sick of this incongruity? (Also: is a stick coming out of Hunky McHunkerson's butt?)

    :P

Also: Blogger now has threaded commenting, Audrey my love! Even more reason for me to bug you to respond to your comments. hehe. <3 <3

  13. Uh.

It looks like a teaser poster for a movie, Channing Tatum-style.

It really reminds me of some movie poster, but I can't put my finger on it...

*sigh* The evolution of YA covers is so WEIRD!

  14. @Yahong: OMG OMG IT DOES LOOK LIKE THE GUY'S GOT A STICK UP HIS BUTT!

I REALLY like the paperback for BRR, which is the edition I got (I wanted the UK one, but TBD must have messed up or something--no matter, I like both covers actually). Though, I agree with the comparison to THG in the blurb.

The RH cover . . . matches. But I do not like! It looks like a romance fiction novel when you plaster a guy on the cover like that! I will NOT go out in public while reading this book, that much I know.

  15. Umm. Yes. To all of that. I totally agree. I LOVED BBR's cover. It was PERFECT. It TOLD me about the story. The new cover is 'man on the book' and that's all.

The new set aren't ugly covers, but they don't do the book the justice it deserves. I kinda sorta want to throw a temper tantrum at the publishers every time they screw with my covers. STOP IT. THEY WERE JUST FINE BEFORE. Ugh.

Also, yes to THG blurb. Don't they realize- it might sell more books RIGHT NOW. But EVERY SINGLE time you say- OMG THIS is the next Hunger Games/Twilight/Harry Potter/BIG FREAKING DEAL- People will buy it, read it, get pissed because it's NOT the next -insert major big book here- and then they have a bad feeling about the book over all. MAKE IT STOP.

    Le sigh.

Regardless- I AM insanely excited that there is SOMETHING being announced about book 2!!! I can't WAIT!

  16. Lol - but I do agree. That cover is dull, unimaginative and just like every other cover out there.

I hate when books say 'the next/better than the HUNGER GAMES' as their selling point. Seriously - its a good series, but its not the only book out there worth reading. It means nothing anymore, every book is compared to the Hunger Games and its already gotten old.

I have the UK version, which I LOVE. http://tinyurl.com/7ba2q57
I bought it because it stood out against all the other covers and models on the front. I really hope the second book they go stick with that design theme.

It drives me nuts when publishers change the whole look of a series after the first book so they don't sit nicely on my bookshelf together (Im looking at you Delirium!!!)

  17. I liked the first cover so, so much better. There was this cool, offbeat theme to it, and now this bright yellow cover with a random hunky dude on it? WHAT?

I'm not complaining about the dude. It just hate how it's so completely different from the first book. Also, why is the actual title so small?

AGHHHH. This is one of my favourite YA series EVER, and seeing this makes me so, so sad.

  18. wow. All I was thinking was. Arghhhhh that waist!! LOL. I'm not surprised. Like you mentioned. Just look at the nightshade covers. Another disaster

  19. WHATTTT I agree, the first cover was excellent and is what made me pick up the book in the first place. I don't like the second cover at all...maybe if enough people complain, the publishers will pull a Magic Under Glass cover switch on us :)

  20. it looks like a movie poster...

    :)

The guy is pretty hot though ~ i can see why people might pick it up (thus, the publishers work is done ;))

still have to read the first one...

    xx Nomes
